Dog Books: Paws & Effect – The Healing Power of Dogs
Paws & Effect: The Healing Power of Dogs by Sharon Sakson tells a series of stories about dogs who rescue their human owners in quite amazing and unexpected ways. The stories are very moving, but they go beyond that because Sakson includes information from animal behavioral research. This increases the credibility of the stories, which otherwise might be viewed as tales of coincidences.
One of my favorites is the dog who was the hands of a person with a disability. He was so skilled at his job that he could bring his owner medicine, “hand” his owner’s credit card to a check out person in a store, as well as providing love, comfort, and of course companionship. These skills go far beyond the practical task at hand. Dogs who serve in this way give their owners the precious gift of increased independence. They may even spare them the distress, vulnerability and expense of relying on human assistants.
One reader comments on learning that the Aztec Indians believed that dogs have healing abilities. This has been disregarded and ignored by most cultures. But Sakson believe dogs can sense when an owner has cancer, and she supports this with scientific theory. If some remain a bit skeptical about this, it is probably more possible to believe the beneficial effects dogs have on nursing home patients.
“Paws & Effect: The Healing Power of Dogs” tells us in so many ways that dogs are terrific! Those who purchase it often also buy “What a Difference a Dog Makes: Big Lessons on Life, Love and Healing from a Small Pooch” by Dana Jennings.
As far as we are concerned, dog and puppies are the most incredible gifts to mankind. That is why we created this Dog Products.org where we offer the best of products, the safest equipment, the most informative literature and the most current information.
